Band 4 - Nursery Nurse, Woodland Neonatal Unit - WACS

An opportunity has arisen for a trained nursery nurse to join our team in the Neonatal Unit at Watford General Hospital. The Woodland Neonatal Unit is a Level 2 unit (LNU) within the East of England network caring for sick term babies and those born after 27 weeks gestation. In addition, we manage a 6 bedded Transitional Care Unit in postnatal ward, caring for mothers and small babies together.

The post holder will be working on a permanent contract for a year in transitional care and in special care nurseries in the neonatal unit. The successful applicant will be expected to be flexible in the area they work on workdays, nights and weekends.

The postholder will be working with multidisciplinary team including the community outreach team to provide a wholistic care for all the babies and their families in the neonatal and transitional care unit.

Education and qualifications

  • BTEC level 3 Diploma in Early Years OR CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education, Level 3 OR NVQ/SNVQ level 3 in Early Years and Education.
  • GCSEs English and Maths grade C or above.

  • Care Certificate.
  • Safeguarding children training.
  • Holds breastfeeding course certificate.
  • Basic life support training.
  • Evidence of commitment to professional development.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge on safeguarding issue.
  • Knowledge on infection controls.
  • Knowledge on risk and keeping environment safe.
  • IT knowledge appropriate to the role.
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered health or care professional.

Experience:

  • Relevant nursery nurse experience.
  • Experience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information.
