Outpatients & Pre-Assessment Nurse

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pre-Assessment & Outpatients Nurse, working closely with Finance and our Clinical Departments.

The post holder will be responsible and accountable for the safe and effective care of patients. Also be able to work as an autonomous practitioner seeking support where appropriate. Working within the limitations of patient group directives and NMC.

Developing the pre assessment service with the support of the Outpatient Manager and Theatre Co-ordinator.

You’ll have an eye for detail and ensure that all rules are met, and contracts are accurately recorded, you’ll have experience of leading supplier negotiations and relationship management for business critical contracts.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Responsibilities

  • Working in Outpatients, you will be part of the day to day running of a series of varied clinics, acting as chaperone, and assisting in examinations
  • Working in the treatment room you will be involved in a variety of procedures including wound care, phlebotomy, and minor operative procedures
  • Pre-Assessment, you will be responsible for the completion of a comprehensive history taking and evaluate previously unknown health issues, to ensure that the patient is fit/suitable for surgery.
  • Duties to include medication reviews, past medical history, carrying out any required tests such as blood, ECG, swabs etc
  • Ensure that appropriate pre-operative investigations are ordered and that abnormal findings are actioned as required
  • Collaborating with Consultants, Anaesthetists, Ward and Theatre staff as you act upon test results as necessary
  • Working relationships with patients, relatives, multidisciplinary clinical teams and scheduling staff
  • You will also be responsible for sending and reviewing online pre-assessment documentation completed by the patient and ensuring that any information or concerns are acted upon appropriately
  • As a Registered Nurse you are responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe and effective patient care within the Pre assessment and Outpatient environment
  • Working to prioritise referrals to within the Harley Street Specialist Hospital and primary care
  • Be in charge of your own caseload including cancellation of admissions and following up referrals and investigations for the more complex patients
  • Ensuring that information is transmitted at handover and is documented either in the notes, appropriate folders or on the computer system as per the data protection policy
  • All documentation relating to a patient’s episode within the department is to be recorded accurately in the patient’s notes/ computer system for future referencing as required Patient information literature to be produced for each patient episode using current evidence-based practice
  • To participate in clinical Audits
  • Implement policies and act in accordance within the decision-making process
  • Provide advice and support to junior staff
  • Be active in the development of policies and procedures within the pre-assessment and Outpatient department
  • Keep accurate records as per HSSH policy and ensure effective communication
  • Contributing to the delivery of business improvement projects in order to streamline the HSSH’s procurement agenda

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience of working within the Private Healthcare industry desirable
  • Experience of having worked in a similar role
  • Educated to degree level (preferably Masters)
  • Build and develop internal and external relationships, in order to work collaboratively to foster good relations
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced role assisting with multiple departments
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required to ensure that information is disseminated accurately to patients, relatives, and the multi- disciplinary team
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite; Windows, Excel; Advanced
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliver results under pressure
  • Exemplary organisation and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently using your own initiative
  • Flexible and proactive with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Flexibility to respond to urgent requests
  • Ability to work independently using your own initiative
  • A confident individual who is well organised and self-motivated
  • Work well in a multi-disciplinary team
  • To maintain accurate records
