What you’ll do

  • Provide an efficient and compassionate phlebotomy service for adults in the community.
  • Perform venepuncture safely and effectively, often working independently.
  • Support patients with empathy and professionalism, ensuring minimal distress.
  • Collaborate with District Nurses, GPs, and clinical teams to maintain excellent standards of care.
  • Act as a role model and help train new staff in phlebotomy skills.

What we’re looking for

  • Certificate of competence in adult venepuncture and NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent).
  • Wide-ranging phlebotomy experience and knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to reassure patients.
  • IT literacy for accurate record-keeping.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (reasonable adjustments apply

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to perform a range of venepuncture techniques in the community setting and will work without direct supervision. This will require the post holder to undertake venepuncture on adult patients ensuring all relevant policy, protocols, Phlebotomy, and other relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) are followed.

The post holder will be a role model for phlebotomy and will provide support for newly appointed community nursing and health care assistants with phlebotomy skills.

You will provide an efficient, effective, and quality community phlebotomy service, performing venepuncture on adult patients based in the community setting, at times in clinic ward / settings but predominantly for patients in their homes where the health and wellbeing of the individual would be compromised by travel.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of a good level of education
  • Certificate of competence in adult venepuncture
  • NVQ Level 3, or equivalent

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology relevant to phlebotomy
  • Ability to work independently
