Job overview
We are looking for a Band 6 Children’s nurse; with experience or an interest in Haematology Nursing and who is ready to undertake more role responsibilities and to complement our existing nursing team.
You will have the opportunity to work within our dynamic and friendly Haematology/Oncology and Paediatric Bone Marrow Unit. Grand Union is a 13-bedded acute paediatric haematology ward with four Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant facilities and in addition a 2-bedded Apheresis Bay.
The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary team of skilled and highly motivated staff who provide high quality care to children with a variety of conditions

Main duties of the job
- In partnership with the MDT develop individual programmes which provide measurable outcomes of patient care. The process should include assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care in accordance with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust policies.
- To lead the provision of care in accordance with St Mary’s NHS Trust Policies reflecting current trends and developments in nursing and the NHS.
- To regularly take charge of the clinical area as required, utilising appropriate support as necessary to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained.
- To delegate tasks and activities to a range of team members in relation to patient care.
- Ensure that nursing documentation is maintained to the Trust standards.
- In conjunction with the staff team contribute to developing and maintaining a ward /department philosophy and model of care.
- To demonstrate awareness and compliance with Trust policies, procedures, guidelines and standards. To work towards promoting this to others.
- To be aware of, and to work towards actively participating in the Trust’s framework of clinical governance within the ward or department area, seeking advice or guidance where necessary.
- Identify and report clinical risks so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the Trust risk management policy.

Education
Essential criteria
- RSCN/RN (child)
- Experience of supervision of junior staff, Mentorship in practice or equivalent
- Excellent level of English language demonstrated through effective written and verbal communication skills
Desirable criteria
- Level 3 safeguarding
- APLS
Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum of 12 months experience at band 5 within the relevant speciality.
- Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
- Experience of change management – positive change agent
Skills
Essential criteria
- For specialist areas able to demonstrate specialist knowledge of patient group
- Knowledge of research and audit
- Ability to take charge of a ward or part of a ward,
- Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.

- Competency in cannulation/ venepuncture
- To be trained or in the process of training, in the safe delivery of Chemotherapy
