Main duties of the job

If you are a passionate paediatric nurse with leadership experience who is keen to make a real difference within a nationally recognised specialist service, we would love to hear from you as we have a Paediatric Respiratory/PCD Nurse Specialist vacancy. 

This role will act as the nursing lead across both services, working within a highly skilled and supportive multidisciplinary team.

Southampton Children’s Hospital is proud to host one of only three PCD Diagnostic Centres in England and one of four Children’s PCD Management Services. 

You will work closely with a Band 6 PCD Nurse Specialist to support the diagnostic pathway and provide expert, long-term care for children and their families following diagnosis. The role is varied and rewarding, incorporating regional outreach clinics, home visits, and education sessions within schools, helping to deliver truly patient-centred care.

In addition, you will collaborate with PCD centres nationally to develop, audit and implement clinical protocols and guidelines, and will play a key role in delivering specialist education and training to colleagues across other NHS Trusts.

Southampton Children’s Hospital is a tertiary centre delivering specialist paediatric services including respiratory care, cystic fibrosis (CF), long-term ventilation (LTV), sleep medicine and PCD. We receive PCD referrals from across Wessex and the West Country and pride ourselves on being a cohesive, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team.
