An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Urology Centre for a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

We are looking for an individual that would enjoy working in an exciting and challenging environment, who has excellent interpersonal and organisational skills along with the aptitude for working independently when required.

Previous experience within a Urology environment would be an advantage, although opportunities for personal and professional development within the role are available.

The successful applicant will be a proactive team member who can demonstrate an ability to effectively contribute and manage; in collaboration with the Nurse Manager, Lead Urology Nurse and members of the Urology MDT; the smooth effective operation of the Centre. 

They will be responsible for ensuring the highest possible standards of clinical care are delivered within the Centre. The role will be a mix of clinical and managerial workload; acting as a role model within the team.

This will be a pivotal role in providing clear and visible clinical and administrative leadership within the Centre.

Main duties of the job

The post holder has a pivotal role within the Urology centre, with responsibility for the management of the centre providing visible leadership & ensuring that high standards of nursing care are provided, resources are efficiently and effectively deployed, and communication maintained throughout the multi-disciplinary team.

The role will involve mix of clinical and managerial duties; acting as a role model within the team, providing clinical leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers others.

The post holder will assist and facilitate the continued development of innovative care, ensuring the future development of the nursing teams and Urology Centre services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

This role requires the post holder to be easily identifiable, visible and accessible to patients and visitors. Ensure the smooth running of the on a day to day basis by appropriate deployment, delegation and supervision of all grades of staff.  

They will lead the team on shift and facilitate an improvement in the quality of healthcare delivered to patients.

The post holder will have responsibility for delivering a service meeting national targets and standards, promoting a creative and innovative approach to on-going service development. 

They will provide clinical leadership that inspires, motivates and empowers others. The post holder will be responsible for the operational organisation within the Centre and for the effective management and development of the staff within the centre.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Adult)
  • Demonstrable experience at band 6 or above in a similar setting underpinned by specialist knowledge and/or additional courses.
  • ENB 998 or relevant teaching experience/qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Can demonstrate experiential learning/training within Urological care, with suitable knowledge across specialist Urological procedures and practices.
  • Demonstrable experience in Post Anaesthetic Care, HDU or Critical Care Experience.
  • Can demonstrate experience of supervision of learners and trained staff.
  • Evidence of advanced skills in practice i.e. iv additives
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
  • Knowledge of current NHS and Professional issues
  • Evidence of achievements in practice development and quality improvement projects
  • Evidence of research based practice
  • Evidence of changing practice and project management
  • Proven record of managing staff and resources
  • Can show an ability to delegate
