Job Purpose
- · Report to the Service Manager and provide leadership in the development of the pathway and delivery of service.
- To provide timely assessment of children and young people who present with moderate to severe mental health needs, including deliberate self- harm assessments and provide a timely follow up appointment and signpost appropriately.
- · To provide support, advice and education to the wider network including the Hub Team. To build knowledge and skills of staff within the alliance partnership in the care and treatment of children and young people.
Main duties of the job
-
Provide specialist mental health assessments and evidence-based treatment for children and young people (CYP) presenting with moderate to severe and complex needs.

Work autonomously and collaboratively within the Mindworks Alliance network, including Mindworks Alliance, School Based Needs, and Surrey Wellbeing Partnership.

Manage a caseload from referral to discharge or transfer, including medium to high-risk cases.

Participate in the Hub duty rota, responding to referrals, queries, and risk concerns from families and professionals.

Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, including risk assessments and crisis planning.

Lead on care planning, warm handovers, and safe discharge processes with documented safety plans.

Provide consultation and clinical advice to multidisciplinary colleagues and partner agencies.

Contribute to outcome monitoring, audit, research activity, and ensure interventions are evidence-based.

Provide clinical leadership, supervision, mentoring, and support to junior staff and students.

Lead on clinical standards, governance processes, and the development of guidelines and protocols.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, child protection procedures, and relevant legislation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Clinical Responsibilities
-
Undertake comprehensive specialist assessments of children and adolescents with complex co-morbid mental health presentations.

Deliver appropriate, evidence-based therapeutic interventions either independently or jointly with Hub clinicians.
-
Formulate and implement robust crisis and contingency plans in collaboration with CYP and families, including positive risk-taking approaches.
-
Manage clinical risk effectively, holding medium to high-risk cases and ensuring safety planning is documented on the electronic patient record.

Oversee initial assessments and facilitate timely referrals, warm handovers, or discharge with clearly defined care and safety plans.

Provide consultation and specialist advice to professionals across the CYP network and CYPS Division.

Communicate sensitive and complex information clearly and compassionately to CYP, families, and carers.
Leadership and Management (Band 7)
-
Lead the setting, monitoring, and maintenance of high standards of clinical care within the Hub.

Identify and address clinical practice concerns that may negatively impact care delivery.
-
Provide clinical leadership and expert guidance to clinicians within the service.
-
Support staff in managing complex, distressing, or high-risk clinical situations.
-
Act as a visible role model, demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge and professional practice.

Supervise, mentor, and support junior colleagues and students; liaise with the Clinical Placement Facilitator to align placements with educational requirements.

Contribute to and oversee the Hub duty rota, offering oversight and guidance to junior staff.

Work collaboratively with the Service Manager to ensure robust clinical governance processes are in place and quality standards are consistently met.
Governance, Quality and Service Development

Ensure implementation and audit of agreed outcome measures across the team.

Contribute to research initiatives and support the integration of evidence-based practice across the care pathway.

Lead the development and implementation of clinical guidelines and protocols relevant to the service area.

Maintain working knowledge of safeguarding legislation, child protection policies, and procedures relating to children and vulnerable adults.
Partnership and Multi-Agency Working

Work closely with partner agencies within the Mindworks network during office hours to respond to referrals and provide coordinated care.

Collaborate effectively within a highly experienced multidisciplinary team (MDT) supporting CYP with moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
-
Provide consultation and liaison support to education, health, and social care professionals as required.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post Graduate level qualification
- Registration with NMC.
Experience
Essential criteria
- 3 years post qualifying experience, 1 of which must have been a year as a Band 6 in community
- Experience working with CYP with mental health needs in the community
- Undertaking mental health assessments, risk assessments, risk formulations, crisis and contingency planning and use of outcome measures.
- Working with other agencies
- To oversee, participate and to support staff in navigation meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings, formulation meetings, risk support and safeguarding
- Understanding of family functioning
- Experience of developing a plan of care to safeguard an adult or child
- Knowledge and awareness of Safeguarding procedures
- To investigate and respond to complaints as directed by the Service Manager and Senior Leadership Team
- Working in partnership with the Mindworks Network consulting and planning care to meet needs in line with The IThrive Framework
