  • Primary and secondary mental health care for children and adults, including specialist inpatient child and adolescent mental health provision, perinatal mental health, and forensic services with low and medium secure care.
  • Specialist mental health inpatient care for individuals with learning disabilities, alongside specialist community support for children and adults with learning disabilities and autism, including intensive support.
  • Extensive community physical health and well-being services for children and adults, covering prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term condition management.

The Trust was first established in 2002 and employs approximately 7,500 staff who provide care from more than 400 sites. The organisation offers opportunities for medics, mental health, general nurses, children’s nurses, allied health professionals, psychology, administration and clerical staff, apprentices and volunteers, as well as those specialising in learning disabilities and community physical health services.

Job overview

We are recruiting for a Service Manager, who will have operational oversight of Blackburn with Darwen Community Mental Health Teams and Networks, Independent Sector Contracted Beds.


Main duties of the job

The Service Manager is responsible for the operational management of services within a locality base. They will ensure that service lines deliver patient pathways that meet all quality and operational performance targets and that these are monitored and tracked. The Service Manager will lead, develop and manage teams within a portfolio to ensure that our services provide a high-quality care for our service users

As our Service Manager, you will work in line with the Trust’s corporate objectives and will be expected to make a positive contribution to the provision of health services.

The successful applicant will be expected to work in line with the Trust values and behave in a manner that facilitates the development of autonomous teams and individuals that are empowered, engaged and committed to continually delivering excellent care with compassion

  • Educated to Masters degree level or equivalent appropriate professional management qualification
  • Participation in continuing professional development to improve and update specialist knowledge

Knowledge

  • Experience of operational management
  • Detailed understanding and experience of the operation healthcare services and performance targets
  • Experience of managing a budget

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Well-developed analytical & problem solving skills
  • IT literate with well-developed skills for the use and application of information technology systems including file management, safe and effective internet use, Outlook, Word processing, PowerPoint, Access and Excel
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills together with influencing and negotiating skills for interacting with individuals across other service lines/localities

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven ability to achieve targets and objectives within a demanding and pressured environment against challenging deadlines
  • Proven ability to manage large groups of staff and implement human resource strategies
  • Ability to empower, coach and support staff
