We are please to invite candidates to apply for our band 5 Theatre Practitioner (RGN/RODP) role working in the surgical unit at Lymington New Forest Hospital (UHS NHS) Trust.


Based within Lymington New Forest Hospital, a community hospital which opened in 2007, The surgical theatres and day ward are modern and welcoming for patients and staff alike and the hospital is set in attractive grounds with ease of parking.


As part of a small friendly team, staff work closely together, helping and supporting each other across the service and unit in a number of different specialities which offers plenty of learning and development opportunities.

These include:
Urology
General surgery
HPB
Ophthalmology
Gynaecology 
Dermatology 
Dental/Maxillary facial
Vascular
Trauma & Orthopaedics
Pain service 

We are located in the New Forest National Park, which is ideal for walking, running and cycling. The Solent and Lymington harbour are also a short distance away.

Swydd-ddisgrifiad a phrif gyfrifoldebau manwl

This role is predominantly a scrub role, although there is opportunity for development into other roles within the surgical unit at LNFH. It is a flexible role across both of the theatres working in the different specialities as well as the out patient procedure rooms. 

The theatres run from Monday to Friday (no weekends, nights or late shifts) and the shift pattern is 08.00 - 18.00.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Meini prawf hanfodol
  • Registered nurse or ODP on relevant part of the register
  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Has the ability to assist in carrying out the transfer of a patient through the intraoperative phase of perioperative care, giving concise accurate handover
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the skills required to support learners in practice and to create a positive learning environment.
  • Practices and promotes the use of evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of current issues within acute health service.
  • Understanding of personal accountability.
  • Aptitude for caring for the anaesthetised and/or acutely unwell patient.
Meini prawf dymunol
  • Experience of teaching and supporting learners in practice.
  • Relevant resus qualification, ie Immediate Life Support
  • Experience of working within relevant care setting
  • Specialist theatre work-based learning course, or mentorship course, post-qualification.
  • Interest in research to promote good practice
