Main duties of the job
We are seeking motivated and qualified Theatre Practitioners to join our dedicated Vascular Theatre team.
If you possess good communication skills, are patient focused, friendly and a team player we want to hear from you. To assist you to develop your career, you will be mentored and supported during your employment. You will rotate through the surgical specialties to gain a wide practical and theoretical knowledge base.
We are also offering opportunities for clinical and leadership development, through developing a career development pathway exploring opportunities for specific clinical development in conjunction with access to leadership pathways. We are keen to offer a range of opportunities, to include dual skill development. Your home base skill could be added to through a secondment into another theatre discipline. We would be opened to discuss career pathways tailored to your individual career focus.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The successful post holder will:
- Provide skilled, specialist assistance in delivering both direct and indirect patient care throughout the Operating Department
- Work as an integral member of the theatre Scrub team, covering early and late shifts (Monday to Friday)
- Act as a patient advocate, maintaining high standards of care in line with NMC or HCPC codes of conduct
- Support and mentor students and new staff as appropriate
We are currently seeking talented, experienced, and motivated Scrub Practitioners who are passionate about patient care and keen to continue developing their skills.
We provide both elective and emergency open and endovascular surgery, offering a varied and rewarding clinical environment.

Qualifications, knowledge and experience
Essential criteria
- Registered nurse or ODP on relevant part of the register
- Degree or equivalent experience
- Has the ability to assist in carrying out the transfer of a patient through the intraoperative phase of perioperative care, giving concise accurate handover
- Demonstrate knowledge of the skills required to support learners in practice and to create a positive learning environment.
- Practices and promotes the use of evidence-based practice
- Knowledge of current issues within acute health service.
- Understanding of personal accountability.
- Aptitude for caring for the anaesthetised and/or acutely unwell patient.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of teaching and supporting learners in practice.
- Relevant resus qualification, ie Immediate Life Support
- Experience of working within relevant care setting
- Specialist theatre work-based learning course, or mentorship course, post-qualification.
- Interest in research to promote good practice
