This exciting opportunity to work in a very busy Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey and work with its outreach partners.

The Oncology division is about to embark in an exciting £6+ million expansion and refurbishment project of the outpatient areas to improve and modernise the overall patient experience, increase the centre’s footfall and provide spaces that better serve patient privacy and dignity.

Main duties of the job


As a registered, accountable and autonomous nurse to act in the best interests of your patients at all times and take personal responsibility for your actions and decisions.  To be responsible for patient assessment, planning of care, implementing and supervising safe and compassionate care, and evaluating the effectiveness of care.  As an NMC registrant, facilitate learning and development of others.  You will demonstrate leadership qualities and be open, transparent and trustworthy.  As a Trust employee act with integrity and uphold the values and beliefs of the Trust and the NMC Code of Conduct.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be an expert practitioner in all aspects of SACT. You will be responsible for extending the scope of nursing practice and developing an advanced level of professional autonomy and accountability in the provision of such care.  As Lead SACT Nurse the post holder will be high profile within the organisation, will be accessible and responsive, with strategic responsibility for Oncology, Haematology and Trust Cytotoxic SACT Service delivery.  By acting as the Lead SACT Nurse, the post holder will be responsible for maintaining quality standards in chemotherapy nursing across the Trust.  The post holder will lead a programme of audit and research related to SACT services within the Trust to evaluate clinical effectiveness and address the Health Care Governance agenda.  The post holder will lead on education and research relevant to SACT. The post holder will contribute to the Trust’s nursing and professional agenda and promote Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a centre of excellence.

  • Registered Nurse part 1 or 12
  • Evidence of recent professional updating and relevant personal development

Knowledge

  • Demonstrates professional awareness and knowledge
  • Understanding of current issues in Acute NHS setting
  • Consolidation of Nurse Training
  • Can demonstrate up-to-date clinical credibility/competence
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues such as complaints handling, clinical risk management
  • Knowledge of current NHS and Professional issues
