Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team on our 16-bedded specialist paediatric cardiology as an experienced band 5 staff nurse.
Do you have previous experience or an interest in paediatric cardiology?
Southampton Children's Hospital is looking for highly motivated, dedicated registered nurses to join our friendly, supportive nursing team on E1 Ocean Ward. The ward cares for children from birth to 18 years as well as supporting their families/carers with a range of cardiac medical conditions and those requiring cardiac surgery. E1 accepts tertiary referrals from across the Thames and Wessex network.
The ward has an excellent educational team and a full educational programme is available to develop your clinical experience with the opportunity to obtain specific cardiac skills and other level two critical care skills to develop your career further.
We are looking for qualified staff nurses that are passionate about our trust values and want to be part of a culture that supports and advocates for our amazing children and their families.
Working for our organisation
As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated ‘Good’ by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.
We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.
Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.
We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
In this role, your key responsibilities will include providing a high standard of specialist individualised nursing care, communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team, maintain accurate records of observation and supporting/delivering treatment to patients.
Along with the relevant qualifications we are looking for you to demonstrate evidence of on-going professional development, good written and oral communication skills, awareness of evidence-based practice and mentorship/buddying experience.
We are looking for an ability to work the full range of shifts within a 24-hour shift pattern and previous experience as a qualified nurse in a paediatric or neonatal environment is desired but not essential.
To understand the role in more detail please read the full job description and person specification documents attached.
