Cardiology Specialist Nurse
AFC Band 7
Job overview
Arrhythmia Clinical Nurse Specialist
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced cardiac nurse to join our Cardiology Specialist Nursing team at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, with a focus on arrhythmia and electrophysiology services. With nationally recognised nursing leadership and a strong commitment to innovation, our service has been at the forefront of developing advanced nurse-led practice, including an established nurse-led direct current cardioversion (DCCV) programme that has successfully delivered over 1,000 procedures.
We are looking for a motivated and forward-thinking nurse who is keen to develop specialist expertise, exercise greater clinical autonomy and contribute to the continued development of our services. Previous experience in arrhythmia or electrophysiology nursing would be highly desirable, although we would also welcome applications from experienced cardiac nurses who demonstrate the clinical aptitude, enthusiasm and potential to excel in this specialty.
We are seeking an experienced cardiac nurse with sound clinical knowledge, strong assessment and clinical reasoning skills, and the confidence to work both autonomously and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
A key component of this position is participation in our established nurse-led DCCV service. The successful applicant will receive structured training, supervised clinical experience and competency-based assessment to develop the skills required to independently perform elective cardioversion, including procedural sedation, in accordance with Trust policies and clinical governance arrangements.
Beyond cardioversion, you will have an active role across our wider arrhythmia and electrophysiology pathways, including pre-assessment of patients undergoing catheter ablation, counselling and preparation of patients for implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation, and supporting patients throughout their treatment journey.
Working closely with our cardiologists, electrophysiologists and wider multidisciplinary team, you will develop specialist clinical assessment and decision-making skills, contributing to the autonomous management of patients within established nurse-led pathways.
You will also have opportunities to take a leadership role in clinical audit, quality improvement, education and service development, helping to shape clinical pathways, strengthen nursing practice and improve patient outcomes.
