We are looking to recruit an experienced, motivated Registered Nurse. We can offer our Nurses the opportunity to work in a varied, challenging but rewarding role in a friendly and supportive working environment. You will work primarily assisting with the delivery of the Interventional (Injection) Service currently located either at Abergele or Llandudno Hospitals. You may also be required to work within Pain Clinics in our outpatient department(s), treating a diverse variety of patients with a diagnosis of Chronic Pain.
Experience of working within a recovery, theatre and/or outpatient department would be beneficial.

Main duties of the job
Clinical.
Assess the patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in order to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.
Ensure patient needs are met by working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies e.g. prepare relevant equipment for investigative and treatment procedures such as physical examination or injections / nerve blocks.
Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients/families, including patients with special needs/learning disabilities or other barriers to communication. e.g. Assist MDT personnel in carrying out procedures ensuring the patients understanding, concordance and relevant aftercare by verbal and written information such as patient leaflets.
Assess patient’s suitability for discharge following medical review and instigate discharge planning arrangements.
Administer medication e.g. intravenous, intramuscular/subcutaneous medications, ensuring that procedures are compliant with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Policy Board Policy.
Carry out procedures in relation to care of patients e.g. aseptic technique in line with ANTT requirements
Ensure that the patient is safely prepared for and escorted to/from theatre and other investigations or procedures relevant to area of work e.g. epidurals, nerve block or Radio frequency block.
Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Job Purpose:
The post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidenced-based nursing care, working collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families within the Pain Management Service.
Assist in the management and organisation of Interventional or Outpatient Clinics and participating in the education, development and supervision of other staff members.
Managerial / Leadership.
Ø Will be required (dependent on level of experience) to take charge of a group of patients/clients with the guidance and supervision of the person with continuing responsibility/ Nurse in charge.
Ø Co-ordinate the work of healthcare support workers, assistant practitioners, students, preceptorship nurse (depending on level of experience) in the delivery of nursing care.
Ø Supervise healthcare support workers, assistant practitioners, students, preceptorship nurse (depending of the level of experience) of the nursing team, and participate in their education and development.
Ø Maintain confidentiality with sensitive information i.e. staffing, financial and patient issues.
Ø Record patient’s property and ensuring that procedures are compliant with Health Board Policies and protocols.
Ø Participate in service development by contributing to the development of team, through unit/department meetings, audit and research
Ø Participate in the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources. Ensure appropriate equipment / stores are available in allocated area of responsibility and are in safe working order.
Ø Have an awareness of own limitations and escalate to a more senior level circumstances/situations that may be detrimental to the well being of patients or colleagues.
Ø Ensure knowledge of staffing policies and statutory guidance relating to area of work and professional accountability relating to staffing
Ø Support department manager by contributing to the evaluation and risk assessment of staffing levels on a shift by shift basis, undertaking any actions within level of competence to resolve staffing
Ø Ensure concerns relating to staffing are raised with Nurse In Charge/Matron and entered on Datix
Ø Have an awareness of harms dashboard and support manager to ensure actions implemented where trajectory outside of agreed parameters, or escalation whereby outside of local control.
Ø Participate in Ward accreditation for own area supporting ward manager in ensuring actions put in place and monitored as a result.
Clinical.
Ø Assess the patients nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care in order to ensure the delivery of effective patient care.
Ø Ensure the principles set out in the Fundamentals of Care are incorporated into daily practice to ensure a high quality service for the patients and clients.
Ø Maintain patients nursing records to ensure information is accurate and up to date
Ø Ensure that patients and carers/relatives are involved in the planning and delivery of care.
Ø Ensure patient needs are met by working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies, especially in relation to ongoing care needs e.g. prepare relevant equipment for investigative and treatment procedures such as physical examination or injections / nerve blocks.
Ø Ensure that effective communication is established and maintained with patients and carers/relatives, taking accurate message information on the phone or from seniors, relaying all environmental and patient information to the nurse in charge and remain polite and courteous at all times.
Ø Communicate complex and sensitive information to patients/families, including patients with special needs/learning disabilities or other barriers to communication. e.g. Assist MDT personnel in carrying out procedures ensuring the patients understanding, concordance and relevant aftercare by verbal and written information such as patient leaflets.
Ø Assess patient’s suitability for discharge following medical review and instigate discharge planning arrangements. Liaise with multidisciplinary teams as appropriate to assist in complex discharge planning.
Ø Administer medication e.g. intravenous, intramuscular/subcutaneous medications, ensuring that procedures are compliant with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board Policy Board Policy.
Ø Carry out procedures in relation to care of patients e.g. catheterisation, removal of sutures, aseptic technique in line with ANTT requirements
Ø Ensure that the patient is safely prepared for and escorted to/from theatre and other investigations or procedures relevant to area of work e.g. epidurals, nerve block or Radiofrequency block.
Ø Recognise and respond appropriately to urgent and emergency situations.
Ø Participate in the responsibility to maintain a clean environment and ensure all members of staff follow cleaning responsibilities.
Clinical Governance.
Ø Take a proactive role in the management of risk. i.e. risk assessments, reporting incidents and near misses.
Ø Undertake all reasonable precautions for a safe and secure environment for self and others in accordance with Health and Safety legislation reporting any areas of concern to the Nurse in Charge.
Ø Use evidence based practice in nursing interventions by keeping self updated in line with NMC Revalidation requirements
Ø Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others.
Ø Promote excellence and improve standards of nursing care by being involved in audit within the clinical area e.g. infection control audits.
Ø Participate in the monitoring of standards and quality of nursing care, through benchmarking, audit and research.
Ø Participate in patient and public involvement activities.
Ø Promote people’s equality, diversity and rights.
Education and Development.
Ø With the relevant experience act as a supervisor , mentor or assessor for students or Healthcare support workers
Ø Develop own skills and knowledge and contribute to development of others.
Ø Develop own skills and knowledge as outlines in the knowledge and skills framework and personal development plan as agreed in an annual professional development review.
Ø Participate in the induction and training of new staff members and pre-registration students, acting as a mentor/supervisor/assessor to students as required.
