Job overview
Are you a Nurse with experienced and knowledge of infection prevention and control? An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Infection Prevention team for a highly motivated Registered Nurse to deliver evidenced based infection prevention advice and guidance across all clinical settings within BCUHB. The Infection Prevention Sister/Charge Nurse is a specialist practitioner with a broad range of skills and knowledge in relation to infection prevention and control.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
To routinely provide specialist and sometimes complex advice in relation to infection prevention, medical devices, buildings, infrastructure, equipment, policy and will be competent in the delivery of infection prevention training and staff competency across all sites and clinical disciplines as part of routine working day. The postholder will also manage, organise and conduct regular audits to assure adherence to IPC policies and guidelines.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
A major focus of the role will be the provision of Infection Prevention expertise, advice, support and training to designated areas across the Health Board. This will involve extensive travel across the sector to support staff in a range of settings including community hospitals, clinics and other Health Board premises, care homes and primary care facilities. The postholder will be responsible for planning and delivering agreed programmes of audit and training, such as a care home link staff programme across the sector, and will work in collaboration with the other Infection Prevention Sisters/Charge Nurses within the team to achieve consistency and effective delivery across the Health Board.

Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience in performing audit in practice and the interpretation of findings
- Experience of surveillance and interpretation of findings
Desirable criteria
- Clinical experience within acute healthcare, and ability to relate that experience to support staff in practice
- Experience of professional leadership in the clinical setting
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RGN
- Sufficient experience year at Band 6
Desirable criteria
- Evidence of working towards further qualification preferably qualification/module in infection prevention
- Evidence of leadership and management development
Skills
Essential criteria
- Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills. Able to positively challenge teams & individuals
- Evidence of working with the multi-disciplinary professional team to negotiate and agree programmes of work
Desirable criteria
- Recent evidence of change management in practice
- Experience of effective policy implementation
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Demonstrates specialist knowledge commensurate with the role across the spectrum of infection prevention activity
- Knowledge of surveillance methodologies, audit processes and quality improvement cycles
