Job overview

The Sirona Adult Learning Disability Health (ALDH) Service is a centre of excellence for specialist learning disability health needs.

We cover 3 localities where multidisciplinary teams enable our service users to access health services through direct care, liaison with other services and offering support and training on how to work with people who have a learning disability and how to make reasonable adjustments.

The service prides itself on delivering high quality support to service users with a variety of physical and mental health issues alongside their Learning Disability. All staff are required to use a range of communication and listening skills to work effectively with our service users. Where necessary you will be required to work at other bases or work remotely from home.

Main duties of the job

  • To plan and deliver specialist behavioural support to people with a learning disability who have behaviours that may challenge.

  • To work holistically with service users to assess and understand their physical, psychological and behavioural needs and how these impact upon the service user

  • To design and deliver training and education to a variety of staff, paid carers, families and external agencies regarding Positive Behaviour Support.

  • To provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation to other agencies regarding PBS.

  • To meet the needs of service users from a diverse background, respecting physical, social, cultural, psychological, spiritual, genetic and environmental factors, in line with local policy.

  • To provide advice, guidance and consultation regarding positive behaviour support.

  • To contribute to the review and development of the Positive Behaviour Support Pathway in liaison with PBS Leads.

  • Participate in and undertake regular clinical governance activity including audits, undergoing clinical supervision and reviewing outcome measures to continually improve quality of clinical practice.

  • To provide post-incident support and debriefing opportunities to service users, staff and families

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience of implementing a positive behavioural support approach
  • Ability to complete specialist functional behavioural assessments and undertake functional analysis of data
  • Experience of working with people who may display behaviour that may challenge
  • Understanding of the Mental Capacity Act/Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Knowledge of safeguarding adults procedures
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of care-coordination
  • Experience of working within care programme approach (CPA)
  • Experience of working within a community learning disability service

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Post Graduate qualification in Positive Behaviour Support or equivalent
  • 2:1 Degree or recognised equivalent qualification
  • Documented evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Student Assessor/Supervisor/mentoring qualification
  • Professional registration (NMC/HCPC)
