In this dynamic role, you’ll help deliver safe, effective and compassionate care that supports same-day discharge, prevents avoidable admissions, and keeps patient flow moving across the hospital.

Working collaboratively amongst an experienced and supportive multi-disciplinary team—from primary care, emergency medicine and specialty teams—you’ll ensure patients receive the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

You’ll provide autonomous evidenced based care, delivering advice and treatment to adults and children with minor injuries/minor illness, and a wide range of complex, urgent or undifferentiated conditions.

You will also play an important part in initiating the onward referral of patients; being able to recognise and manage patient  pathways for patients who may require further intervention or specialist referral to inpatient, outpatient or community-based teams

Main duties of the job

  •  Work within your scope of autonomous practice and ensure all practice is delivered to the highest standard and reporting any deficits in practice or resources to the senior practitioners on duty or the Unit Manager
  • Work to and comply with local and organisational pathways, policies, standard operating procedures.
  • Undertake clinical supervision, annual appraisal and personal development planning session.   Maintain own professional registration
  • Maintain and ensure all infection prevention control procedures, and policies are adhered to and maintained.
  • Ensure comprehensive and accurate records are planned and recorded for all attending patients as per NMC and HCPC guidelines with regard for confidentiality and the duty of candour.
  • Maintain patient notes in line with Data Protection Act (1998).
  • To understand issues and policy relating to medicines management and safe storage and use of harmful substances.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and delegated specialist meetings.
  • Work within your scope of autonomous practice and ensure all practice is delivered to the highest standard and reporting any deficits in practice or resources
  • Demonstrate ability to work with complex clients and situations, demonstrating ability to problem solve.

Experience, Skills, Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • ILS/PILS
  • Autonomous but supported practice within a health care environment
  • Clinical examination skills e.g. neurological, abdominal, respiratory, ear nose and throat, musculoskeletal
  • Evidence of experience within emergency, urgent care, minor injury units, walk in centres or relevant community settings
  • Experience of being able to communicate with a wide range of people from varied social, cultural and professional backgrounds
Desirable criteria
  • Wound Closure

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • First level registration as a paramedic, physiotherapist registered with the Health Care Professional Council or registered nurse (RGN) or RSCN
  • Degree or equivalent
