NHS AfC: Band 7
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and highly skilled Midwife to join our Delivery Suite leadership team. In this role, you will provide visible clinical leadership, supporting the team to deliver safe, compassionate, and high-quality care while promoting a positive culture and strong sense of teamwork across the multidisciplinary workforce. You will have daily responsibility for coordinating the Delivery Suite, demonstrating effective operational and leadership skills, with a focus on patient safety, staff support, and continuous improvement. A personalised development plan will be provided to support your progression within the role.
We are seeking a passionate, enthusiastic, and adaptable individual who thrives in a busy intrapartum environment. You will support the development of the team, role model the Trust values, and contribute to creating a culture of psychological safety, learning, and accountability. You will ensure that both low- and high-risk women and their families receive safe, individualised, and respectful care at all times.
As Delivery Suite Coordinator, you will oversee the day-to-day management of activity across Delivery Suite, the Triage Service, and Acorn Suite (low-risk birth unit), ensuring safe staffing, effective flow, and timely escalation of concerns. The post holder will also contribute to service development, quality improvement, and the ongoing strengthening of safety and culture within intrapartum services.
Main duties of the job
- Promote a positive safety culture by role modelling professional standards, supporting psychological safety, and encouraging open communication, reflection, and learning within the multidisciplinary team.
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care and provide up-to-date advice and support to women and their families throughout pregnancy and birth, in accordance with the NMC Code, and local and national guidance.
- Support the Head of Midwifery and the Inpatient Matron in the operational management of the service, including escalation, staffing oversight, patient flow, and risk management.
- Provide visible, compassionate leadership, supporting staff wellbeing, development, and performance, and contributing to the creation of a respectful, inclusive, and supportive working environment.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ensuring clear, professional, and effective written, verbal, and non-verbal communication with women, families, and members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Contribute to the development of the team through teaching, coaching, and supervision, supporting staff to maintain competence and confidence in clinical practice.
- Participate in shift work, including nights, weekends, and on-call/bleep holder responsibilities, in line with service requirements.
- Be prepared to work across sites as required, including travel between Trust locations, to support service delivery, training, team leadership, and management responsibilities.
