Band 7 Midwife and Child Safeguard Pracitioner

The Trust is committed to ensure that the safeguarding structure and processes are robust and effective. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic practitioner to join our Midwife and Child  Named Professionals. The team is made up of a range of professionals working to safeguard adults and children including the acute liaison nurses for Learning Disability, the Mental Health Lead Nurse for the Trust and our safeguarding administration team.

The Midwife and Child Safeguard Practitioner will work closely with the Named Professionals for Child Protection and the wider safeguarding team. They will provide advice and support for staff across the Trust relating to Child Protection and drive forward service improvement throughout the Trust. The appointed individual will work with the Named Professionals  to deliver training throughout the Trust.

We are looking for an individual who has some experience of safeguarding children, who wants to develop their skills and competencies in safeguarding within a busy acute Trust, is flexible, tenacious and professionally curious around safeguarding.

The post holder will support the Trust Named Nurse and Named Midwife for Child Protection by,

·       Providing professional and clinical leadership to the multi-disciplinary teams across the Trust and external partners.

·        To work closely with the Safeguarding team around domestic abuse and attend relevant partnership meetings

·       To be an active member of the safeguard team, contribute to the delivery of the safeguarding work plan, undertake audit and service development

·        Manage safeguarding issues across relating to children/ unborn in the organisation to ensure that the  Trust complies with current legislation and local safeguarding governance arrangements

·       Collaborate with multi agency partners, patients and carers to support integrated patient centred pathways, make safeguarding personal and take account of what matters for the individual at risk

·       Be responsible for the collection and reporting of safeguarding activity data for the Trust safeguarding governance purpose and the external regulators

·       Support the principles of the relevant Safeguarding Children’s Partnership

Essentail Criteria

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse Child and or Midwife
  • Educated to 1st Degree level/commenced pathway
  • Relevant Post registration Training in Child Protection or equivalent Skills
  • Recent experience of working with unborn/child at risk of abuse or neglect
  • Leadership /managment knowledge or expertise
  • Evidence of planning and delivering training to multi-displinary teams and groups of staff
  • Evidence of change managment eg development of new service and/or clinical intiatives for both professional and service delivery
  • Ability to undertake risk assessment and analysis in relation to the provision of services
  • Demonstrates expert clinical skills in the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of care for an unborn/child at risk of abuse and neglect.
  • Demonstrates good organisational skills
  • Articulate to work collabratively with colleagues and peers
  • Articulate with highly developed interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Able to network and to build sound reltionships with senior managers and health professionals wihtin the trust and external organisations
Desirable criteria
  • Accredited Post Registration training in child protection
  • Education Qualification
  • Project managment experience in multi-agency clinical services
  • Evidence of conducting investigations and providing verbal and written evidence and reports to appropriate meetings/conferences
  • Understanding the compexities of domestic abuse
  • Demonstrates ability to think laterally creatively and innovatively
  • Experience of change managment

  • Recent experience of working with unborn/child at risk of abuse or neglect
  • Leadership/managment knowledge or expertise

  • Ability to undertake risk assessment and analysis in relation to the provision of services
  • Ability to work collabratively with colleagues and peers
