Band 3 Healthcare Assistant - Sexual Health

**This is a fixed-term/secondment opportunity for up to 12 months to cover maternity leave.**

We have one full-time post available for 37.5 hours per week and one part-time post for 33 hours per week.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot offer visa/sponsorship for this post.

The post holder will work as part of the Florey Clinic team, delivering high-quality care to patients attending the sexual health service.

You  will provide high quality care to patients attending for sexual health screening as well as other services provided in the Florey Clinic. The post holder will provide care in a compassionate and sensitive manner:

  • Acting always in the patient’s best interests.
  • Protecting and maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Providing individualised care for a diverse group of patients respecting personal beliefs and preferences.
  • Alert the Registered Practitioner and/or Ward/ Department Manager to any change or concern relating to the welfare of the patient in a timely manner.

Main duties of the job

Provide high quality care to patients attending for sexual health screening as well as other services provided in the Florey Clinic.

Complete the Band 3 care support worker competencies. This includes completing asymptomatic screening on patients, completing HIV patients annual and routine blood tests, supporting senior clinical staff with clinics and contraception services. Ideally the applicant will have completed the care certificate for the Royal Berkshire Hospital. 

Communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, their relatives /visitors, ward / team leaders and all members of the multi-professional team utilising a wide range of well-developed communication methods.

Effectively adapts communication methods as required for patients with sensory impairments such as hearing loss, speech difficulties, seeking support and guidance from Registered Practitioners as required.

Ensures own practice complies with Data Protection/ Confidentiality/Caldicott Principles.

Works as an effective team member and demonstrates a good understanding of the role of team work in the delivery of high quality care.

Education, qulification and training

Essential criteria
  • Successful completion of Trust’s Band 2 Developmental Passport or ability to demonstrate equivalent level of competence.
Desirable criteria
  • QCF level 3 in Health or Health and Social Care.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as Healthcare Assistant within an acute hospital environment or equivalent setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working within relevant specialty.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Information technology literate.
  • Demonstrates an empathetic, caring and sensitive approach to patients, relatives and carers.
