Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (Ophthalmology Outpatients) - PCEU Windsor

This post is based at Prince Charles Eye Unit, King Edward VII Hospital, St Leonards Road, Windsor, SL4 3DP - and attracts a Fringe payment of 5% of gross basic salary.

Please Note: we are not able to provide visa sponsorship for this role.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Prince Charles Eye Unit in Windsor.

You will assist colleagues from Doctors to Nurses to reception staff in delivering a safe and efficient service.

You will also need to obtain clinical skills to work in various areas of the department (Visual Acuity, Ocular pressures, Dilation, Ocular scans, Supporting within our Eye casualty & AMD injection services).

Main duties of the job

To work within a busy Outpatients department alongside our supportive and enthusiastic team. 

To develop Ophthalmic knowledge with in-house training.

To ensure patients, visitors and colleagues are supported to ensure all patients visits to the unit run effectively and care needs are met.

Visual Acuity, Pressure Checks, Dilation, OCT Scans, Supporting Colleagues & patients within the OPD, Eye Casualty & AMD Services.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide high quality fundamental care to patients under the supervision a Registered Practitioner in a caring, compassionate and sensitive manner:

  • Acting always in the patient’s best interests.
  • Protecting and maintaining the patient’s privacy and dignity at all times.
  • Providing individualised care for a diverse group of patients respecting personal beliefs and preferences.
  • Alert the Registered Practitioner and/or Ward/ Department Manager to any change or concern relating to the welfare of the patient in a timely manner.

To be actively involved in providing supervision and guidance to junior/less-experienced staff.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Successful completion of Trust’s Band 2 Developmental Passport or ability to demonstrate equivalent level of competence.
  • Completed Care Cerificate.
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ / QCF level 3 in Health or Health and Social Care.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as Health Care Assistant within an acute hospital environment or equivalent setting.
  • Reliable work / study record.
Desirable criteria
  • Ophthalmology Experience.
