The role has a priority focus on supporting the process of child protection medicals undertaken by Community Paediatricians. The post holder will be responsible for chaperoning children and young people during child protection medicals. They will support in the provision of a caring and safe environment for babies,children and young people who are undergoing a child protection medical. The post holder will also be responsible for conducting medical observation clinics for Community Paediatric and ADHD patients and will accurately record observations and clinical notes.

The post holder must be respectful to the dignity and confidentiality of the child or young person at all times and will support them to ensure that the appointment is completed, whilst ensuring their needs are recognised and met. They will need to take a flexible approach to their workload as child protection medicals often take place at short notice and predominantly in the afternoon. Child protection medicals and observation clinics take place at multiple sites across Birmingham, following a fixed rota, covering North, East, South, West and Central parts of the city. 

 

 

Main duties of the job

Work collaboratively as part of the multi-disciplinary team supporting colleagues in work associated with responding to requests for child protection medicals

Undertake medical observation clinics clinics for Community Paediatric and ADHD children ho are on medication pathways.

 Work across various locations on a flexible basis in order to respond to requests in a timely manner. 

Obtain prompt assistance during an emergency situation 

Be aware of the most appropriate route to raise concerns and do so if concerned about the medical professional's behaviour or actions

 During periods when child protection medicals are not being carried out, to support the Child Development Centres, service and Named Doctor for Safeguarding Children and Young People as required and where appropriate, for example with ICPC and Safeguarding audits, ensure equipment is serviced and bases have adequate supplies/equipment.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ qualification in Health Care or Equivalent
  • Evidence of relevant professional development post qualification.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up to date evidence based clinical trends and practice.
  • Evidence of working in a healthcare setting
  • Evidence of recent professional development
  • Experience and ability to demonstrate an understanding of working with children and families in a clinical and/ or community setting.
  • Evidence of effective communication skills and ability to adapt communication as required to respond to varied stages of language development.
