Job overview
We are looking for an experienced Registered Mental Health/ Children's/Learning Disability Nurse to assist the Ward Manager & Clinical Nurse Specialist in the provision of clinical leadership and to be a clinical role model to the team. To act on behalf of and deputise as directed by the Ward Manager & Clinical Nurse Specialist in their absence and provide quality evidence-based nursing advice support and care for young people with mental health needs and their carers within a multidisciplinary setting.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work on one of the 3 Inpatient CAMHS wards located at Parkview Clinic in Moseley. It is an exciting time to be involved in service development, quality improvement and provision of compassionate leadership at Parkview Clinic.
The post holder will provide clinical and managerial nursing leadership at ward level and deputise for the ward manager and/or clinical nurse specialist.
The post holder is expected to work with a large nursing team and a multi-disciplinary team jointly planning, implementing and evaluating patient care; supporting them and their families through their admission pathway.
The post holder will be expected to mentor both students and their nursing team, carrying out appraisals and offering clinical supervision, and operationally line manage nursing team members.

Professional/Managerial/Specialist Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Responsible for the safety of young people and staff on the unit in the absence of Band 7 nurse, in and out of hours
- Responsible for budgets in terms of use of bank staff, taxi bookings and use of petty cash
- Responsible for leading the team on an ongoing basis
- Organising time allocation by shift
- Organising own time and that of others
- Ensuring shift runs to time
- Planning education/training sessions
- Planning supervision/mentoring sessions
- Planning off duty
- Planning in times of crisis
- Fluent in using Word
- Sending and receiving emails
- Ability to communicate to an advanced level with other professional colleagues, young people with social communication difficulties, parents/carers, professionals from other agencies – social care, education, police etc

- Full up to date training in MAPA
- A level of agility that allows for being physical active for a large part of each shift – walking at a pace, responding to alarms for adjoining units, taking the role of holding as part of a team, walking to local amenities, taking part in morning and afternoon walks with young people, taking part in preventing a young person from absconding from unit/grounds
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse Mental Health / Child / Learning Disability
- Degree level training/ Diploma
- Training / Education relevant to CAMHS nursing
Desirable criteria
- Leadership training
- Recent attendance at external training / conference
Knowledge and Nature of Experience
Essential criteria
- Providing clinical supervision
- A mentor to nursing students
- Must be solution focused and able to problem solve
- Extensive experience at working at band 5 or above in inpatient CAMHS
