Clinical Nurse Specialist Major Revision & Bone Infection Service

Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for providing specialist knowledge and advice, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues relating to the identification, assessment, treatment management for the patient group. They will assess, plan and implement effective care of patients under the care of the Major Revision and Bone Infection Service. Utilise and develop their skills across a variety of settings, working as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

  • Be a clinical specialist in the field of revision arthroplasty and bone infection and will have the skills to empower others in clinical practice.
  • Offer an advisory role in the specialty of revision arthroplasty and bone infection, which supports health professionals, patients, and carers.
  • Engage directly with consultants, medical staff, and all members of the multi-disciplinary team in the management of bone infection patients, working across professional and organisational boundaries to provide a comprehensive patient focused service.
  • Be responsible for supporting the Advanced Clinical Practitioner in running nurse led services and clinics that support bone infection patients in their treatment pathway.
  • Act as an educational resource to all members of the MDT and the wider Trust, and facilitate the development of nurses and healthcare staff to improve the bone infection patients’ experience

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration Degree level nursing qualification Post-graduate orthopaedic nursing course or willingness to complete. Recognised teaching qualification or experience of teaching. Evidence of continued professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Post Registration training/qualification relevant to the specialty. IRMER competencies Non-Medical Prescribing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post registration band 6/7 experience in an acute setting Recent acute orthopaedic experience Worked as a member of a multidisciplinary team, ideally within a surgical environment Involvement in Audit Evidence of ability to work autonomously. Evidence of ability to recognize and analyse complex situations and take appropriate actions.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in managing patients with bone infection.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of duties required for the post. Able to work across organisational and professional boundaries

Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Leadership skills and an understanding of leadership theory and practice Organisational skills Clinical skills competence- including Performance of Phlebotomy (performing and interpretation), Cannulation, ECG.
