We are looking to recruit a Band 6 Charge Nurse/ Sister to our team.
The post will require you to work a mix of shifts. The busy Children’s Ward has an identified Paediatric Assessment Unit, High Dependency Area, Young Person’s Area and a Dedicated Day Case Unit. We can offer a range of training opportunities. We require someone who is adaptable to work in all areas of the ward and who is a real team player. The successful candidate will have recent experience of working within an acute setting.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be designated to take charge of the Ward regularly, being responsible for the management of the ward during the shift, including the organisation of the ward activities and the management of staff and resources.
The post holder will have direct involvement in the delivery of a high standard of care to the patient and their relatives.
The post holder will participate in the education and training of nursing students and will act as a role model to junior staff and other team members.
The post holder will have recent experience of working within an acute setting, and taking charge.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- RSCN/RNC or RGN with extensive experience in paediatrics
- Evidence of undertaking a recognised course of study in teaching and assessing.
- Educated to degree level or can demonstrate experience of operating at this level.
Skills/ Experience
Essential criteria
- Recent Paediatric experience at a Band 5 level or above.
- Paediatric Life Support/Advanced Paediatric Life Support course.
- Paediatric High Dependency module or willingness to undertake.
- Evidence of professional development and regular study since qualification.
- Experience of close liaison with members of multidisciplinary team.
- Effective leadership, good analytical and clinical decision making skills.
- Knowledge of effective people management practices.
- Knowledge of clinical audit and effectiveness systems.
- Current experience of working with safeguarding issues and able to identify and refer to appropriate agencies.
- Recent experience of working within an acute setting
Desirable criteria
- Computer Literate.
- Experience of taking charge
- Experience of bed management within an acute setting
Communication
Essential criteria
- Effective communication skills, verbal and written.
- Able to demonstrate negotiating and influencing skills.
- Able to communicate using different methods (i.e. email etc.).
