Senior Care Support Worker - Outpatients Department

Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Senior Care Support Worker (Band 3) to join the Dudley Rehabilitation Service on a part-time basis, working within the Outpatients team. The role is primarily based at Corbett Hospital, with some working required at Russells Hall Hospital.

The successful candidate will support a variety of Nursing, AHP, and Pharmacy-led clinics, with key responsibilities including assisting in clinics, performing ECGs, and helping to ensure smooth and efficient clinic operations.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to patient care as part of a supportive and dedicated multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

·       Be an integral member of the ward/department team working under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner.

·       Be responsible for providing care to patients as delegated by the registered practitioner following the completion of specific competencies.

·       Contribute to the maintenance of care environment and quality initiatives to enhance patient care.

·       Ensure that their practice adheres to policies, procedures and competencies.

Act in a manner that upholds privacy, dignity, respect and confidentiality of patients and colleagues

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Maths and English Qualification – GCSE A-C or Functional Skills Level 2
  • Care Certificate or ability to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment
  • QCF/NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare or equivalent qualification/relevant experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Able to undertake a limited range of delegated clinical care duties, e.g temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, wound observations, removal cannula/catheter
  • Able to assess patient/client condition through observation/test results; assess comfort of patient/client, instigate emergency procedures
  • Regular contact with bodily fluids when carrying out interventions and or treatments
  • Frequent moderate/intense effort required for periods of time
  • Experience in a healthcare environment
  • Manual handing of patients, equipment and stores

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Ability to recognise limitations of knowledge and competence and practice within these boundaries
  • Prepared to undergo further training
  • Able to use and update IT systems with patient information
  • An understanding of their role within the team

Communication & Relationship Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of effective communication skills including • Verbal • Written (legible handwriting) • Non-verbal • Compassion and respect
  • Ability to communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and / or carers
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff / multidisciplinary team
  • An understanding of how to behave / act in a clinical environment
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach to work
  • Courteous and polite

Planning & Organisational Skills

Essential criteria
  • Participation in flexible work patterns / shift working required to provide 24hr service to meet the needs of the service.
  • Flexibility to work across the Health Economy
