Staff Nurse - Ward 1

NHS AfC: Band 5

Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which will commence in 2021

We provide high quality, friendly and effective community health services from multiple sites covering Walsall. Our multidisciplinary services include rapid response and homebased care, so that those with long term conditions and the frail elderly can remain in their own homes.

We are recommended by colleagues as a place to work which is supported by the trusts values to work as part of a team, being respectful, compassionate and professional. We are committed to investing in our workforce

Following our recent CQC visit the Trust was rated as outstanding for care and this has been recognised by NHS Improvement. We are committed to delivering high quality care in our wards and services and as part of our improvement plan to become an outstanding Trust by 2022

The work we do is highly rewarding, and in addition to an attractive salary, we offer a valuable range of benefits, including: salary sacrifice scheme; car leasing scheme; on-site staff accommodation (subject to availability); the ability to retain your NHS pension (where applicable) or the opportunity to join an alternative scheme; and the opportunity to develop and implement your expertise in an encouraging yet challenging environment

We would particularly welcome applications from people from a Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic background and from people with a disability; these groups are currently under-represented at senior level, we value diversity within our Trust and are working to achieve equality in our recruitment.

Acute Medical Nurse Band 5

Salary reflects agenda for change.

Ward 1 Walsall Manor Hospital has an exciting opportunity to join an established ward area as a staff nurse Full time 37.5hrs, Working hours are 7am-19.30

Why ward 1?

We have recently been recognised as an excellent team by the trust.

Many of the staff on our ward are long standing members of the organisation which reflects on the morale and spirit of the area, they will be able to provide knowledge and experience to guide new members of the team including student nurses and TNA staff.

The position comes under the division of Medicine and long term conditions and covers an array of medical issues and admits patients over the age of 65. However due to the Covid pandemic the ward focus has changed slightly and has accepted patients of all ages requiring isolation and management of acutely unwell patients.

The ward works closely with the palliative care team and has undertaken lots of work to provide essential support to patients and relatives when they most need it, and we pride ourselves on our end of life care, ensuring dignity and a focus on the fundamentals of care.

The ward also works closely with the mental health team and the safeguarding team, as the age group we care for can have a medical history of dementia or other mental health conditions and we want to ensure we are providing the safest care for these individuals.

The successful candidate will need to be passionate about providing quality care for older people and promote independence; we want staff to make a difference, and become a valued member of our long established team.

As a ward area we are encouraging staff to gain experience working in an acute background and our focus is identifying unwell patients and treating patients quickly. The ward has been chosen to focus on sepsis treatment and recognition.
