The Trust has many and varied career opportunities for you to choose from.

UHBW has been rated by the CQC as ‘Good’ overall and our staff are proud to deliver excellent care to the people of Bristol, Weston and beyond. As a forward-thinking multi-award winning Trust and a digital exemplar committed to improving patient care, our world-leading research and innovations are having a positive local and global impact.

Job overview

The AvonCAP study team at UHBW are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join the team!

The Avon Community Acquired Pneumonia Study (AvonCAP) is a pan-pandemic acute lower respiratory tract disease surveillance study.

The study records information on every adult patient admitted to Bristol’s two large NHS hospitals with acute respiratory illness. In addition to the observational data, patients are approached and asked for consent to additional testing for pneumococcal and RSV infection.

This study will be recruiting over the next two years and plans to recruit 10,000 patients per year.

We are recruiting a Band 5 research nurse who will support the research sister in the safe and effective delivery of this critical study whilst also acting as a resource for staff, researchers, research participants and patients.

You must possess a keen interest in research, have excellent communication skills and be able to work well within a multi-disciplinary team. You will take a proactive approach in supporting clinical research studies including supporting the consent process, undertaking participant assessments and sampling procedures.

The role requires close working with colleagues across UHBW, North Bristol NHS trust (NBT) and the University of Bristol, therefore excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must.

In return we can offer you a friendly working environment with professional support and training/development opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The AvonCAP Research Nurse will support the senior research nurse with consent  processes and practical assessments involved in the study. These may include questionnaires, vital signs, collection of samples including blood, urine and swabbing and observation of participants post vaccination. The post holder will be required to complete all administrative duties associated with these assessments including entering results on to a computer-based data collection system. The post holder will ensure that the research is undertaken within research governance and good clinical practice (GCP) guidelines and safeguards the wellbeing of participants.
