Job overview

Are you a midwife who believes that where a woman births matters, and that real choice requires a skilled, confident advocate at her side?

We're looking for a passionate Band 6 midwife to join our Birth Centre team at Stoke Mandeville Hospital, attending homebirths as lead midwife and supporting women choosing our alongside birth centre.

This is a role for someone who thrives on autonomy, continuity, and connection. You'll conduct holistic risk assessments, and be a visible champion for personalised, evidence-based care. You'll also mentor junior staff and contribute to a service committed to reducing health inequalities.

Main duties of the job

This is a birth centre-based midwife post with a requirement to attend 
homebirths as the lead midwife with an aim to provide safe, evidenced 
based and personalised care to women and birthing people throughout their 
pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey

  • To promote and facilitate choice to those wishing to birth at home and also 
    support women who choose to birth in the alongside birth centre  
  • To continually undertake holistic risk assessments to support the delivery of 
    appropriate care
  • To work in partnership with the wider multidisciplinary team, enabling 
    coordinated care and where necessary appropriate referrals
  • To actively contribute to the reduction in health inequalities by supporting a 
    service that is accessible to all
