Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic nurse to lead the development and delivery of SACT services across Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. This senior leadership role provides expert clinical, professional and strategic leadership, ensuring the safe, effective and high-quality delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments across the organisation. The post holder will lead on governance, patient safety, workforce development, education, quality improvement, service transformation and implementation of national SACT standards. Working closely with multidisciplinary colleagues, you will influence service development, enhance patient experience and support excellent clinical outcomes. We are seeking an experienced oncology or haematology nurse with strong leadership skills, expert SACT knowledge and a passion for delivering outstanding patient-centred cancer care.
Main duties of the job
This is a senior nursing role, expert in all aspects of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), with responsibility for leading and developing SACT nursing services across the Trust.
The post holder will ensure that national standards for SACT are implemented and that guidelines relating to the safe administration of SACT are adhered to, reviewing and developing care pathways to meet patient need and to identify where specialist nursing input can be optimised.
The post holder will provide advanced clinical skills, leadership and expert knowledge in clinical practice, working with a high degree of autonomy in the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients receiving SACT, including the management of SACT-related toxicities, and will contribute to the ongoing development of clinical practice, policies, procedures and guidelines in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
The post holder will demonstrate effective leadership and management skills, with the ability to drive quality improvement, influence patient care and implement new and innovative ways of working across the SACT service.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & TRAINING
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse on the NMC register
- Degree in a cancer-related subject, or equivalent experience
- Recognised SACT qualification (Level 6 or above)
- Master's level qualification, or able to demonstrate equivalent experience, or working towards
Desirable criteria
- Non-medical prescribing qualification
- UKONS SACT Passport
- Teaching and assessing / mentorship qualification
- Advanced communication skills training
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive, significant post-registration experience relevant to SACT at Band 7 or above
- Experience in a SACT day-care setting
- Proven leadership and management skills and experience
- Knowledge of cancer care pathways and Cancer Waiting Time standards
- In-depth understanding of governance frameworks supporting safe SACT provision
Desirable criteria
- Experience contributing to the clinical governance agenda for oncology services
- Experience writing operational policies, protocols and guidelines
- Experience of service development responsive to service users
- Experience of undertaking research, audit and/or publication
- Experience working with national charities or professional forums to promote patient-centred services
