Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our senior nursing team on EAU5.
EAU5 consists of 26 beds, including 9 cardiac monitored beds, and 2 additional rapid handover spaces to support ambulance offloads from the ED.
EAU5 is also the admission point for medical patients experiencing a mental health crisis.
We are looking for the right person who will continue to uphold the ethos of the unit, whilst ensuring continued development of both staff and the service. You must be a motivated, positive, and dynamic individual with proven leadership experience, or keen to take your first step into a leadership role. You must be able to inspire staff and ensure the provision of safe, personal and effective care, whilst maintaining flow through the unit.
You will be expected to maintain high standards of care, meeting national and local standards with regards to quality, safety and length of stay within the unit.
The post is for 21.75 hours per week (0.58FTE)
Main duties of the job
You would be responsible for the day to day running of the ward with regards to quality, flow and staffing, including roster management
You will be expected to work shifts over a 24/7 period to ensure sufficient senior nurse cover on the unit, and hold the divisional staffing bleep, which includes the cardiac arrest bleep.
To lead and co-ordinate a multidisciplinary team to ensure an optimum level of safe and effective patient care within budgetary resources. To assess care needs, to develop, to implement and evaluate programmes of care.
You will support the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse for all aspects of staff management and recruitment, including sickness and performance management, clinical governance and risk management, and deputise in their absence.

- Current registration with the NMC as an adult nurse
- Evidence of continued professional development
- Practice assessor and supervisor
- Qualification in acute care management
Desirable criteria
- Completion of a leadership program
Experience
Essential criteria
- Post registration experience within an acute clinical area
- Acute medical nursing experience
- Post registration experience within an acute clinical area
Desirable criteria
- Experience as team leader
- NHS experience
- Experience in team development and management eg. appraisals
- Previous experience in an acute assessment unit or emergency department.
- Previous experience of bleep holding
Knowledge
