Paediatric Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for maternity leave cover (a secondment or 12 month fixed term), at CUH for a nurse with experience in paediatric rheumatology to join the Child and Adolescent East of England Rheumatology Service (CHEERS) in the role of clinical nurse specialist. To provide NHSE specialist commissioned paediatric rheumatology care for the East of England region. Our service is provided by closely linked expert teams in Cambridge and Norwich and a shared care network with outreach clinics.

Yiu will join a dynamic team with a fast growing service, fully committed to providing excellent care to the region's children and young people with rheumatology conditions. You will be the lead nurse based at Addenbrooke's hospital, joining a team with two consultants, physiotherapy, OT, psychology, research nurse, pharmacist and secretarial support. We work closely with our patients/parents to shape and improve our service and we are rated highly in both patient feedback and national benchmarking.

There will be opportunities to access training relevant to the speciality, build relationships across the east of England Network (CHEERS) and support service development.  You will work closely with the paediatric rheumatology consultants to provide excellent care to children from across the region who attend for outpatient appointments, infusions and inpatient admissions as well as supporting outreach clinics.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is a recognised expert in the specialty, responsible for assessing, developing and implementing specialist nursing care programmes and undertaking specialist nursing procedures

Responsible for providing specialist advice and support to, and liaising with, other staff. This includes the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students

Responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence based care

Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits in own specialist area

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • RSCN/ RN Child
  • First Degree (or equivalent level) in nursing or health-related subject
  • Teaching and Assessing qualification
  • Evidence of on-going CPD
Desirable criteria
  • Post-graduate Diploma/ Degree/Masters
  • Adult/RN Qualification
  • Counselling qualification
  • Independent and supplementary prescriber
  • Clinical assessment skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Working with acute and chronically ill children/ young people
  • Evidence of having worked collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Demonstrate a commitment to teaching colleagues/ students and to mentorship
  • Community experience
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of publications in nursing journals

Knowledge
