Job overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and clinically skilful midwife to lead the post-natal ward, Lady Mary Ward.  You will be expected to lead by example, developing your team to thrive and shine within their roles so they are empowered to provide excellent evidence-based care.  

If you have a passion for supporting and advocating for women and birthing people while fostering a compassionate leadership style that nurtures and grows your workforce; have the ability to provide effective and comprehensive management to all aspects of leading a clinical area as well as being a conduit between the senior leadership team and the clinical staff – then we would love to receive your application!

Main duties of the job

To provide expert clinical midwifery care and leadership based on current research base evidence, ensuring an optimum level of safe and effective care throughout the Maternity Services.

To provide high quality evidence based midwifery care, for all women and babies.

To support and empower women throughout the childbirth experience, providing information and choices enabling them to make informed decisions about their care.

Due to Home Office immigration rules, a full time permanent vacancy cannot be filled by individuals on a Student visa. Therefore, please be advised that if you are a Student visa holder, we will not be able to offer you a full time permanent contract unless you have:

-    or you will have successfully completed your course and have applied for a Graduate visa before the anticipated start date of your employment
-    or the Trust has agreed that they will Sponsor you as a Skilled Worker and you will complete your studies within 3 months of the anticipated start date of employment

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating evidence of relevant on-going professional development
  • Mentorship qualification
  • Able to demonstrate on going learning
Desirable criteria
  • Diploma /Degree in Midwifery or equivalent.
  • Supervisor of Midwives
  • ALSO
  • NLS
  • Management and leadership qualification
  • Experience with Research or audit

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of midwifery in all areas of the maternity service
  • Evidence of relevant clinical updating
  • Line Management experience
  • Evidence of leadership, management and/or team development at a clinical level to motivate and support team
  • Robust understanding of Guidelines and Policies and ability to write, audit and update as required
Desirable criteria
  • Involvement with clinical audit and research
  • Use of computerised information system
  • Use of computerised information system
  • NHS experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Aware of current research and its impact on evidence based care.
  • Conversant with NMC rules governing practice
  • Understanding of the role of the PMA midwives
  • Demonstrate awareness of clinical governance
  • Knowledge of current reports/guidelines relating to Maternity Care and their implication
  • Good all round knowledge of patient surveys and satisfaction questionnaires

Skills

Essential criteria
  • To be able to practice in all clinical areas in accordance with the NMC Rules and Standards and support redeployments as per service requirements
  • Well-developed interpersonal and counselling skills
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability in perineal suturing, cannulation, I.V. drug additives and epidural management
  • Able to demonstrate contribution to changing practice
  • Demonstrate effective clinical leadership ability
  • Ability to be on call when required
