Job overview

This role is a Band 5 staff nurse role on Ward G5 our Transplant ward.  You will join a highly skilled and enthusiastic team caring for a mixture of surgical and medical patients throughout the transplantation journey.  The unit cares for patients post renal / renal pancreas / liver / multi-visceral and modified multi-visceral transplant.

 

Main duties of the job

Undertake the role of a Band 5 Registered Nurse, delivering high-quality care to patients across all stages of the transplant pathway. Provide immediate post-operative care, including the assessment, monitoring, and management of acutely unwell patients. Recognise and respond to transplant-related complications, including acute rejection, ensuring timely escalation and appropriate intervention. Deliver holistic, patient-centred care and contribute to effective discharge planning in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Work under the guidance and support of senior nursing staff to ensure safe, evidence-based practice.

This vacancy is for Registered Nurses with full NMC registration. If you are an internationally trained nurse that has not passed their OSCE (objective structured clinical examination), you will not be considered for this role and will be automatically rejected, so please do not apply.

Internal applicants on permanent contracts can apply for this post as a secondment or fixed term contract. For secondments you must have the approval of your line manager before applying. If you are an internal applicant currently on a fixed term contract you are able to apply for this as a fixed term position.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current registration with NMC on part one or two of the Register
  • Supervisor and assessor training completion
  • Alert / WACS or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Other post-basic, health-related professional development and its application

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Proven clinical practice in an acute hospital
  • Experience in both surgical and medical clinical areas.
  • Experience of utilising reflective practice
  • 18 months post qualification experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of mentoring and teaching junior staff
  • Experience of shift: shift ward management in absence of senior colleagues
  • Experience of clinical supervision
  • Previous transplant experience
  • NHS Experience

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of NMC Code of Conduct and guidelines of professional practice
  • Good theoretical and practical knowledge of nursing within the clinical area
  • Health and Safety awareness
  • Understanding and knowledge of Clinical Governance
