Job overview

Work closely with the CoPDoL Manager, the post holder will support the delivery of a high-quality MCA/DOLS service providing professional advice, support and education to the multi-professional team, patient and carers. Using their specialist advice to enable the recognition, prioritisation and appropriate response to support the requirements for Mental Capacity assessments, Best Interest decision making processes, DoLS applications and Court of Protection cases.

As a CoPDoL Lead Practitioner the post holder will provide effective capacity continuum activity by providing professional leadership and guidance, to ensure compliance with MCA (2005) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2009) with a view to working in line with Liberty Protection Safeguards as they are introduced. 

This role will convey and present highly complex and sensitive information written and verbal, formally and informally as appropriate. Ensuring that applicable information is maintained and kept in an appropriate place. Working in conjunction with the CoPDoL Manager ensuring standards are monitored and the golden thread of MCA is being consistently applied, through observation in practice. Contribute to the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards policies, guidelines and procedures ensuring embedded into practice. 

 

Main duties of the job

The Manager plays a key operational role within the Integrated Care Board (ICB), taking responsibility for the effective delivery of services, projects, and programmes within their area of work.

This role is responsible for the line management and coordination of activities within a defined area, ensuring that performance, quality, and improvement objectives are achieved, considering options for action to deliver on the requirements and any adjustments to plans that may be needed.

Communicating with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring that complex information is a communicated in a way that is understood, and ensuring tact and diplomacy where this may be contentious.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience in a relevant field (e.g., health, care, public services, management, or related discipline).
  • Significant post qualification experience
  • Qualified as a Best Interests Assessor under the DOLS Process
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience in managing teams or services within the NHS, public sector, or comparable complex environment
  • Experience in leading and coordinating projects or services in a multi-agency environment
  • Demonstrable ability to implement service improvements and contribute to organisational change
  • Experience in operational planning, performance monitoring, and delivery of agreed objectives
  • Evidence of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders, including clinicians, partner organisations, and community groups
