Job overview

An exciting opportunity has become available for  Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join our paediatric team within the Children's Unit.   Holly Ward is a 19 bedded unit for children age 0 - 18.   We care for children with a range of medical and surgical conditions.  Experience of working with children and families is required and the ideal candidate will be flexible, have excellent communication skills and be able to work within a busy environment.

Applicants who do not meet the full criteria for appointment at Band 3 may be appointed at Band 2 and supported through a structured development programme including completion of required competencies and qualifications with progression to Band 3 subject to evidence of competence and service need.

Main duties of the job

As a Healthcare Support Worker you will support the nursing team to deliver a high standard of care whilst putting the child and family at the centre of everything you do. You will be a part of an enthusiastic, friendly and hardworking team.  A flexible approach, good sense of humour and the ability to prioritise workloads is a must.

Full training will be given to the successful candidate.  Full and part time positions are available. All posts will be on internal rotation to days and nights.

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE or equivalent in English Language and Maths or can demonstrate competency in the above
  • NVQ Level 3 in Care (or other relevant subject)
  • Desire and ability to undertake appropriate training
  • Applicants who do not meet the full criteria for appointment at Band 3 may be appointed at Band 2 and supported through a structured development programme including completion of required competencies and qualifications with progression to Band 3 subject to evidence of competence and service need.
Desirable criteria
  • Documented evidence of Continuing Professional Development

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working with babies/children and young people
  • Good understanding of the role of the Health Care Support Worker

  • Experience of working within a healthcare environment
