An exciting opportunity has arisen for  a 12 month secondment within the Hepatology specialist nursing team.

This is a really exciting time for our patients and staff as we work with our local health system partners across Cambridgeshire, Peterborough and South Lincolnshire to deliver some key development projects that will shape the care we provide for future generations within the 900,000-strong catchment we serve. As well as building a new hospital at Hinchingbrooke and redeveloping our sites at Peterborough and Stamford to better meet the needs of patients, we are investing in a Trust-wide electronic patient record system and harnessing digital technology within our diagnostic services to enhance the quality and speed of diagnosis and treatment.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist nursing contribution to the clinical management of patients

with a variety of Liver Disease, working autonomously and in collaboration with multidisciplinary professionals ensuring the Hepatology service maintains a consistent high standard contributing to the improved outcomes for patients.

To support the development of the Hepatology service to deal with the positive results on routine blood born virus testing in our emergency departments.

To perform at specialist enhanced practitioner level, facilitating early assessment, supporting diagnosis and prompt treatment of patients presenting to North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust within the inpatient/outpatient setting, admission avoidance, timely discharge and ensure that management is in line with evidence-based guidelines. The main responsibilities of the role will be related to clinical expertise within Hepatology, with an emphasis on initiating, performing and maintaining standards of clinical excellence. The overriding purpose is to support the provision of the highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement.

Essential criteria

  • • Educated to Degree level
Desirable criteria
  • • Evidence of recent speciality related learning

Experience

Essential criteria
  • • Demonstrate experience at a band 6 or Senior Band 5 level
  • • Evidence of mentorship/teaching experience
Desirable criteria
  • • Recent experience working within gastroenterology or Hepatology
  • • Demonstrable autonomous decision making

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable criteria
  • Working knowledge of patient administration systems
  • Hepatological conditions
