Job overview

We are looking for a midwife who is passionate, enthusiastic and skilled in intrapartum care to work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team of Obstetricians, Anaesthetist, Theatres, SCBU, Labour Ward coordinators and Acute Service Lead Midwife in providing clinical, operational ad managerial leadership. 

The successful candidate must be committed to continuous quality improvement, be able to participate in the development of guidelines, complete Audit and support the delivery of safe, effective and personalised care.

Main duties of the job

This post will provide the clinical and managerial leadership alongside the Acute Service Lead Midwife taking responsibility for providing a clear focus for the profession and effective clinical leadership and accountability for the service. 

You will be responsible for the line management of staff and ensuring they uphold the Trust and Professional values. Working in collaboration with the Acute Service Lead Midwife you will be expected to participate in the development of the service in line with national and local agendas, and  the delivery of performance targets

You will have responsibility to line manage staff and support their development alongside the wider multidisciplinary team. You will be expected to provide clinical advice and care within the clinical area.

Education/Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Relevant Degree or evidence of further study and experience to the equivalent
  • Evidence of further study at post registration level
  • Sign Off Mentor
Desirable criteria
  • Management qualification or experience
  • ALSO course/Obstetric Emergency course

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of 3 years sound clinical midwifery experience
  • Experience in all areas of Midwifery, with evidence of recent comprehensive Labour Ward experience as a Coordinator
  • Demonstrates leadership skills and initiative
  • Evidence of participation in risk and clinical governance agendas
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of the change process
  • Experience of management of a team
  • Knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

Skills and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work alone and as a member of a team
  • Clinical Skills i.e. Perineal suturing, IV Cannulation, NALS
  • Understanding of learning and teaching styles and their application
  • Ability to manage difficult situations effectively
  • Demonstrates effective operational day to day management
  • Ability to undertake Audit

  • Understanding of budget management
