Job overview

Are you enthusiastic, motivated and passionate about providing excellent clinical care?  Are you resilient in stressful situations and able to work in a busy working environment with high acuity? This is your opportunity to join the haematology team  at the University Hospital of Wales. As a complex, expanding and critical service we are now recruiting a band 7 Nurse Practitioner to join the clinical team. 

We are seeking experienced Registered Nurses with a strong background in haematology nursing and significant expertise in malignant and non-malignant haematology.  The postholder would need significant background haematology experience but training will be provided. You will need to be highly organised and efficient, with a demonstrable record of managing your own workload and practicing autonomously within the scope of your competence. The ability to work productively as part of the team and have a clear understanding of your own limitations are essential.

There may be opportunities to work in other haematology areas as a Nurse Practitioner

 Competence in advanced practice skills and a previous band 6 role would also be very beneficial. Post holders will be given support to complete the Non- Medical Prescribing course and other training as necessary.

You will join a dedicated Multi-disciplinary team. Together we have a holistic approach to the care of our patients focusing on their individual needs and priorities.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with the haematology team in managing a defined caseload of BMT patients and have continuing responsibility for:

, with patients treated in the most appropriate place base


- Assessing medical needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.

- Ensuring a coordinated service for patients’ within the in-patient setting, ambulatory care and TYA.


- Achieving the aims of the directorate through effective direction and control of staff and efficient use of resources.


- Providing health education and advice for both patients and relatives.


- Providing specialist skills, knowledge and expertise for haematology  patients.


- Develop and deliver education for colleagues caring for haematology patients across the treatment area

-Communicate onward care plans with local hospitals.

-The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The post holder will work with the linked Advanced Nurse Practitioner and BMT Consultant, and nursing management team undertaking clinical audit and research to maintain evidence based care and providing extended skills and knowledge to educate, train and develop other staff within Haematology Directorate. In addition the post holder will formulate specialist evidence based policies and procedures for the clinical area and implement clinical governance strategies in accordance with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board policies

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC registration
  • Specialist Training to MSc or equivalent level of expertise
Desirable criteria
  • Independent prescribing
  • Teaching and assessing in clinical practice/Teaching qualification
  • Masters degree

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in Haematology or relevant speciality at Band 6 level or above
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of managing own caseload in relevant speciality
