Job overview

Our Endoscopy Unit based at Bronglais General Hospital is seeking to appoint a highly motivated, dynamic, forward thinking Nursing Support Worker to join our Endoscopy team.

The post is full time 37.5 hours per week.

The Endoscopy unit has a friendly supportive environment, which is strongly focused on teamwork and patient care. It provides diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy services for both inpatients and outpatients. We are currently running 5 days a week. It has one procedure room and has JAG accreditation.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for assisting in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in Gastroenterology and Urology along with administration duties to ensure the smooth running of the lists.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties. 

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest 
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire 
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings 
  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers 
  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses.
  • Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working within a relevant health or social care environment, providing direct patient care.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
  • Experience of working within the NHS.
