Job overview
We are looking for a Band 6 Junior Sister/Charge Nurse to join our friendly Paediatric team caring for babies, children and young people aged 0-16 working across the Cilgerran Unit. Providing opportunities to rotate in Paediatric Ambulatory Care Unit, General Paediatric Ward and Paediatric High Dependency Unit in Glangwili General Hospital.
The acute service for Paediatrics includes the 8 bed Paediatric Ambulatory Care unit for assessment and observation unit, 24 bedded inpatient children’s ward, 3 high dependency care beds, as well as Oncology care, child and adolescent mental health services.
The post is based at Glangwili General Hospital and includes a day/night rotation. The work is varied and offers opportunities to develop a broad range of specialised skills working within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency partnerships.
Various full and part time hours are available.
Main duties of the job
We provide an excellent service to meet the needs of children and families which incorporates both the rapid assessment and stabilisation of all general paediatric emergency admissions and inpatient beds. You will be responsible for the provision of high-quality care, mentorship and management of junior staff including leading the development of a team of Band 5 Nurses.
We offer good opportunities to accumulate paediatric nursing skills within a friendly, supportive, and encouraging team and opportunities to rotate within the unit.
Applicants need to be RSCN/Child Branch trained with relevant NMC registration and have significant post registration experience or hold the HDU qualification.

Qualifications and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Current NMC registration
- RN part 8 or 15 of the register
- Degree (or equivalent experience)
- Pertinent postgraduate diploma (or equivalent development / experience and a willingness to undertake appropriate post graduate diploma level study)
- Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of NMC Code (2015)
- Evidence of CPD
- Able to demonstrate sound knowledge of paediatric nursing
- Knowledge of the Childrens Act, Safeguarding Procedures, Human Rights Act, and other legislation/guidance relevant to children
Desirable criteria
- Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
- Recognised management qualification
- EPLS/APLS/PALS
Experience
Essential criteria
- Appropriate experience within specialty and able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant specialty
- Experience of working in a multi-professional environment
- Experience of running a ward/area/department
- Experience of working with pre-registration nursing / midwifery students
