Job overview

This Clinical Practice Educator post provides a wonderful opportunity for an experience ITU nurse who has worked in a band 6 capacity or has had exposure to unit coordination.  A passion and enthusiasm for staff development and education is essential, you will need excellent communication skills alongside the ability to work autonomously having to manage your diary to best support the ITU team. 

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) position. 

 

Main duties of the job

As a clinical practice educator you will be responsible for:

- Co-ordinating and delivering new staff induction programmes, mandatory study days, education, training and support staff attainment of Step 1,2 & 3 Competency Framework. You will also maintain staff training records and submit training reports. 

- Attending local  governance meetings and support implementation and evaluation of innovative practice. 

- Working clinically with junior nurses supporting the attainment of step one competencies.

- Supporting the practice educators team in delivering mandatory study days. Provide bedside ad hoc education and training to staff.  Support more senior staff in the attainment of Step 2 and 3 Competencies. 

- Working with the MDT to meet GPICS standards and support implementation of innovative practice leading to the delivery of clinical excellent, high quality patient care. 

- Maintaining staff training records and submit training reports to practice educator manager.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

  • 47 general practices (six of which are health board managed practices); dental practices (including four orthodontic); 97 community pharmacies; 43 general ophthalmic practices; and 8 ophthalmic domiciliary providers 

  • Numerous mental health and learning disabilities services

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree Level Education
  • Evidence of post registration study in Critical Care nursing to diploma level or equivalent
  • Up to date knowledge of Local and National agendas
  • Knowledge of implementing change
  • Able to apply Local and National policies to practice
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge and understanding
  • Up to date with best practice guidelines
  • Evidence of research based practice and development
Desirable criteria
  • Post graduate teaching qualification (PGCE)
  • Evidence of further professional development
  • Working towards MSc (Level 7)
  • Evidence of a recognised management course
  • Leadership course
  • IQT Silver
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation and government guidance
  • Knowledge of service delivery systems in health care

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post Registration experience in Critical Care at Band 6 and/or experience in ITU shift coordination in the absence of a Band 6 /7 Sister/Charge Nurse
  • Proven high standard of nursing care
  • Evidence of involvement in Quality Improvement
  • Evidence of involvement in both formal and informal teaching and clinical skills development within Critical Care
Desirable criteria
  • Team Leadership experience
  • Audit/ evaluation experience
  • Experience of recruitment/ interviewing process
  • Evidence of involvement in incident reporting and investigation
  • Evidence of involvement in the PADR process for staff
