Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Rheumatology Team for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse who would like to develop their clinical skills and promote effective quality of care to patients with autoimmune conditions.

The post is a permanent role for 30 hours per week as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Rheumatology.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will facilitate relevant practice development in line with National standards, guidance and best practice through clinical practice, leadership, education, research and audit which reflect the Health Board clinical governance objectives. You will work as an integral member of the wider multi-disciplinary team to promote clinical and cost-effective care.  

Potential candidates must have good communication and time management skills. They must be capable of supervising and educating staff, promoting personal and professional development within the team. The successful candidate must be able to use their own initiative but be able to work well as part of a team and know when to seek advice. Knowledge of evidence-based practice in Rheumatology is desirable.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Hywel Dda University Health Board plans and provides NHS healthcare services for people living in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, and bordering counties.

We have over 13,000 staff and together we provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services.

We work in partnership with the three local authorities, as well as public, private and third sector colleagues, including our valued team of volunteers.

  • Four main hospitals: Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth; Glangwili Hospital in Carmarthen; Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli; and Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest
  • Five community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery hospitals in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron Hospital in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire hospitals in Pembrokeshire
  • Two integrated care centres: Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion, and several other community settings

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Part 1)
  • Current NMC registration
  • Bachelors degree
  • Specialist post graduate qualification or experience
  • Proficient level of knowledge in clinical speciality
  • Knowledge of service improvement
  • Able to undertake a literature search and critically appraise research papers
Desirable criteria
  • Teaching qualification (or equivalent experience)
  • Advanced clinical skills
  • Non-medical Prescribing (v300)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant experience at Band 5
  • Experience in relevant speciality
  • Experience of working in a multi-professional environment
  • Experience of working with pre-registration nursing/midwifery students in a mentorship role
  • Experience of undertaking audit
