This is an exciting opportunity to become a valued member of our maternity team. As a Midwifery support worker you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver exceptional care to women, birthing people and their families. The MSW is responsible for delivering a range of fundamental care duties and delegated clinical skills, under the supervision of the registered midwife, ensuring a high standard of care is achieved, whilst working within agreed policy and procedure.
MSWs are required to work within the multidisciplinary team in a cooperative and professional manner, ensuring the ward or department is a safe, clean and a welcoming place for women, birthing people, families and staff.
Main duties of the job
1. Undertake a limited range of delegated clinical duties and activities relevant to the services provided or work area; report completion of tasks and escalate any concerns to the registered midwife.
2. Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, oxygen saturation level and blood glucose level) of women, birthing people and newborn infants, demonstrate an understanding of the normal range and report any abnormal recordings to midwifery staff.
3. Demonstrates understanding of the importance of working in partnership with women and their families. Providing education and resources to support informed decision making and of respecting their decisions
4. Assist women/birthing people to meet their individual elimination needs which involves assisting with toileting, catheter care and emptying catheters, completing fluid balance charts where necessary.
5. Assist women/birthing people to mobilise safely, including the correct choice and use of various aids available.
6. Recognise an obstetric or neonatal emergency, summoning assistance and acting as a member of MDT within parameters of own competence and role.
7. Assist the registered midwife or doctor with maintaining patient privacy and comfort during medical examinations or clinical procedures.
8. Assist women and their families with responsive infant feeding, helping them to gain confidence with positioning and attachment. Maintains knowledge about infant feeding.

- Level 3 qualification (e.g. A-Level’s, NVQ3) in Health & Social Care OR equivalent knowledge and experience.
