As an Occupational Health / Mental Health Nurse, you’ll work alongside a skilled multidisciplinary team to deliver expert, evidence-based care to NHS staff — helping them to stay well, return to work, and perform at their best.

We would like to hear from experienced Occupational Health nurses or mental health nurses that are  who are looking for a challenge supporting the mental health and wellbeing of NHS staff.  The Occupational Health service at Mid Cheshire also provides services to East Cheshire Trust, and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust as well as other small and medium NHS and non-NHS organisations the role is therefore diverse and interesting. 

Main duties of the job

We are looking for proficient health care professional who will provide expert evidence-based practice and clinical expertise in Occupational Health.  An experienced Occupational Health practitioner or mental health practitioner  with decision-making autonomy, responsibility and accountability within agreed guidelines and protocols, who can contribute to the leadership, development and supervision of others. 

The ideal person will work collaboratively with others or independently to meet the needs of Occupational Health Collaboration.  It is expected they will also participate in the education and development of other staff members and assist with the development of clinical services and enhanced practice across the sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·       Provide a specialist area of practice, providing expert professional advice to others across the Collaboration within agreed guidelines and protocols, including medical colleagues and other professional groups when required.

·       Perform comprehensive specialist assessment of clients, plan, treat and evaluate care within agreed guidelines and protocols according to evidence-based practice and changing health needs. 

·       To provide a service for both clients and managers to enable employees to safely fulfil their role and facilitate their safe early return to work should a member of staff become too ill to attend work.

·       Communicate specialist information to medical colleagues and others.  Refer clients to appropriate clinicians, in the Trust or externally, within agreed guidelines and protocols, according to assessment of client need and evidence-based decision.    

·       Prioritise client care, supervising and allocating one’s own workload, monitoring and evaluating effectiveness of care, including discharge of clients, or referring on, within agreed guidelines and protocols. 

·       Perform specialist clinical skills in the treatment and overall management of client care, including requesting and interpreting investigations, within agreed guidelines and protocols.   

·       Provide a comprehensive specialist service, accepting accountability and responsibility for the management and effectiveness of the service on a day-to-day basis. 

·       Collect, collate, evaluate and report on information, including communicating detailed information to clinical colleagues and others, maintaining accurate client records and documentation. 

·       Promote client and public involvement in the improvement of services and involve clients and carers/relative in the planning and delivery of their care.

·       Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure client needs are met, especially in relation to client flow, care pathways and discharge arrangements. 

·       Analyse and act on information to proactively manage and maintain NHS targets and standards.
