Employer heading
Research Nurse Band 6 (Dermatology)
NHS AfC: Band 6
Job overview
Do you want to use your nursing and research experience to help bring new treatments to people living with skin conditions? We are looking for a Research Nurse to join our research team at Waters Green Medical Centre in Macclesfield, where we are building our dermatology research portfolio.
You will coordinate and deliver a mix of commercial and non-commercial studies, working closely with the Principal Investigator (PI). Day to day, you will be the person who makes studies run well: finding and recruiting participants, taking informed consent where delegated, running study visits and procedures, and keeping research data and study files ready for inspection.
Dermatology will be your main focus, but you may also support other research areas as the service needs change. This is a 0.6 WTE post (22.5 hours a week), fixed term for 12 months in the first instance.
Main duties of the job
• Act as the day-to-day site coordinator for your studies, from set-up and recruitment through to follow-up, monitoring and close-out.
• Identify, pre-screen and recruit participants, and take informed consent where trained and delegated.
• Plan and deliver study visits within protocol windows, deciding within your delegation whether a visit can go ahead or needs PI review.
• Carry out protocol procedures once trained and signed off, such as observations, venepuncture, ECGs (electrocardiograms), giving study treatments, clinical photography, sample collection and dermatology scoring tools.
• Support skin biopsy pathways, including preparing participants, aftercare and sample handling.
• Recognise and report adverse events, and process, store and ship samples in line with the protocol.
• Keep accurate source documents, Case Report Forms (CRFs) and Investigator Site Files, and respond to data queries on time.
• Work with dermatology clinicians, pharmacy, laboratories, sponsors and the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Research Delivery Network to keep studies on track.
• Guide and support less experienced research staff, students and learners.
