**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the ‘ECT Family’ this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust.** 

An exciting opportunity has opened for a Band 6 Charge Nurse on Ward 7 & Coronary Care Unit (CCU)

Ward 7 & CCU are a dynamic workforce who are keen to help support & develop nurses interested in experiencing this exciting & changeable environment.

Ward 7 is a 28 bedded ward specialty of cardiology & endocrinology care. CCU is a four bedded unit for level 2 cardiology patients.

Applicants must hold a mentorship qualification (or equivalent course) & with Band 5 experience within cardiology.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Band 6 is to support, contribute to and assist the Ward Manager in the leadership and the management of the unit team and to support the Ward Manager in the development, monitoring and implementation of high quality, evidence-based clinical care to ensure continuity of service provision and standards are maintained and improved. 

The Band 6 Charge Nurse will act as a role model for staff on the ward sharing knowledge and information and supporting colleagues and members of the multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Nurse (Adult/Child/Mental Health) with current NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development and up-to-date portfolio.
  • Teaching, assessing, or mentorship qualification (e.g., ENB 998, Mentorship Module, Practice Assessor).
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership/management qualification or willingness to work towards.
  • Evidence of specialist training relevant to the clinical area.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Up-to-date knowledge of evidence-based practice and national guidance (e.g. NICE, NSF).
  • Understanding of clinical governance, audit, and risk management processes.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, infection prevention and control, and patient safety standards.
  • Advanced clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Ability to coordinate safe admission, transfer, and discharge planning.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and supervisory skills.
  • Effective communication skills with patients, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work under pressure.
  • Competent in IT systems and electronic patient records
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge of budgetary processes and workforce planning.
  • Knowledge of digital systems for patient flow, rostering, and incident reporting
  • Presentation and teaching skills for education sessions.
  • Skills in service evaluation and change implementation.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant post-registration experience within the relevant clinical specialty.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience mentoring students or supervising junior staff
  • Experience of taking charge or leading a shift
  • Experience contributing to service improvement or change
  • Experience using audit or reporting tools
  • Experience of complaint resolution or patient liaison.
  • Experience of rota management, staffing allocation, or redeployment.
  • Experience of contributing to financial/resource awareness
