Job overview

**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the ‘ECT Family’ this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, both NHSP and ECT bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from applicants not listed within these groups.**

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister or Charge Nurse  to  cover maternity leave

Outpatients has 3 areas, the post is to cover Orthopaedic Outpatients.

The successful applicant will support the management of delivery of best practice services to patients, from the fundamental aspects to advanced care interventions.

To support the development and to maintain and monitor standards of nursing care within the Departments, to effectively assist in managing clinical audits, competencies, demonstrate clinical knowledge and education within the Departments, prioritizing these in order to meet the requirements of the Trust.  To deputise in the absence of the Senior Sister.

Hours per week: 37.5

Main duties of the job

Demonstrate clinical knowledge of all specialities accommodated within the department

Contribute to the delivery of quality care by leading in the assessment, planning, provision and evaluation of care

Supports and monitors patients encouraging them to promote their own health and wellbeing

Through demonstration of advanced knowledge and skills maintain a high standard

To continually evaluate and update the department’s philosophy

Management

To be responsible for the creation and maintenance of the department roster using the eRostering system ensuring that the department is safely and fairly staffed

Allocates work to make the best use of the team and the abilities of all its members

To co-ordinate effective communication between all members of the multi-disciplinary team

To provide the team members with suitable learning opportunities to meet their personal objectives

To ensure the promotion of the safety of patients, staff and visitors to the department

To be aware of and work within the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy and to treat all contacts, staff or clients with dignity and respect

To participate in the Trust’s appraisal system

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registration
  • Evidence of CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
  • Teaching certificate or Mentorship / Preceptorship certificate (or willing to undertake)
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant Degree
  • Management training
  • Leadership course

Knowledge / Experience & Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience at Band 5 level
  • Evidence of good practice
  • Broad nursing experience
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to manage the department
Desirable criteria
  • Be aware of political issues affecting healthcare
  • Evidence of extensive knowledge of a particular specialty
  • IT literate
  • Budge management skills
