Job overview
**This position is open to staff working at the Trust in the ‘ECT Family’ this includes current East Cheshire NHS Trust employees, both NHSP and ECT bank staff, ISS staff and volunteers at the Trust. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from applicants not listed within these groups.**
The role of the Charge Nurse is to support, contribute to and assist the Ward Manager in the leadership and the management of the Children’s Unit. The Charge Nurse will support the Ward Manager in the development, monitoring and implementation of high quality, evidence-based clinical care to ensure that continuity of service provision and standards are maintained and improved.
Hours per week: 26.00

Main duties of the job
To support the Ward Manager in leading and co-ordinating the Unit Team to ensure that timely and efficient admission/transfer and discharge of patients whilst maintaining patient safety
Develop and strengthen the skills of the team to ensure effective communication skills are maintained by liaising with the Ward Manager, Multi-Disciplinary Team, other health professionals, patients and their families/carers, leading by example.
To participate and proactively support an awareness of audit, research and contribute in service developments.
To contribute and take an active lead as delegated by the Ward Manager in maintaining patient safety, undertaking clinical risk assessments and utilising the clinical incident reporting system and ensuring clinical staff are provided with feedback.
Demonstrate a high level of evidence-based, core clinical competencies, knowledge and skills that are commensurate with the post and act as a clinical expert within own sphere of specialty.
To act as the patient advocate; Promoting children and young people’s equality, diversity and rights.
Promote the health of children, young people and their families through appropriate support and education. Participate in relevant projects and programmes designed to promote health and well being.
