Job overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Staff Nurse Band 6 post to cover maternity leave on a 12 month fixed term contract on our MIU ward.
As the nurse in charge, you will liaise with members of the multi-professional team both within the department and beyond, to promote effective communication and to ensure high quality care is delivered to the patient both effectively and efficiently.
You will also be responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in the ward setting and Minor Injury Unit/
The post will consist of day and night shifts with weekend cover and the opportunity to gain community experience.
Previous experience and knowledge of minor injuries and illness is essential.
Main duties of the job
- Carry out complex assessments of patients conditions and needs, planning and documenting appropriate care regime.
- Line management of a team of staff.
- Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies on the ward whilst interpreting information and taking appropriate action and to lead others to do the same.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To be responsible and accountable for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care in the ward setting and Minor Injury Unit
To provide leadership, support and supervision to junior colleagues and to act as a role model in the assessing, planning, implementing, evaluation and delivery of a high standard of individualised care to patients and their carers while on the ward, or when appropriate throughout the hospital.

Essential criteria
- Current professional registration with NMC
- Mentorship & Teaching Qualification
- Professional nursing qualification at degree level
- Experience of working in Minor Injury

- Post registration qualification in Minor Injury

- Experience of teaching/assessing/supervising others in a clinical setting
